Hsu Fei: Expressions from a Palace Maid ~ 《宫女词》 许棐 with English Translations

许棐。生卒年均不详,约宋理宗宝庆初前后在世。嘉熙中(公元1239年左右)隐于秦溪,筑小庄于溪北,植梅于屋之四檐,号曰梅屋。四壁储书数千卷,中悬白居易、苏轼二像事之。许棐著作颇多,《四库总目提要》谓其诗“沾染于江湖末派”,大抵以赵紫芝等为矩矱,以高翥等为羽翼,以书贾陈起为声气之联络,以刘克庄为领袖,“然其咏歌闲适,模写山林,时亦有新语可观”。 《宫女词》 许棐 妍丑三千众,恩情一例轻。 妾身虽寂寞,天下却升平。 Expressions from a Palace Maid Hsu Fei Among the fair and ugly three thousand maids, His majesty has no particular personal favor; Though I am one of those feeling very lonely, But gratefully I do enjoy peace in the world.
